Gain favor by killing enemies, with heroes earning more favor than regular units. Hersirs are full heroes while Jarls are powerful cavalry with a bonus against myth units. The Norse are led by Thanes, Hersirs, and Jarls. Because infantry construct buildings, Norse can quickly build a forward base or occupy enemy territory without bringing vulnerable civilians into dangerous places. Norse units are strong offensively, but weak on defense. Buildings are built by infantry instead of Villagers. Ox Carts serve as portable drop points for resources. Dwarves are very good at mining but not as good as gatherers at other tasks. The Norse have two kinds of Villagers: Gatherers and Dwarves. Their emphasis on mobility and offense is truly in the Viking spirit. The Norse are an aberration from other Age of Mythology civilizations and can take some getting used to. There are five Monuments each more expensive than the last. He can heal, attack monsters from a distance, and visit buildings to empower them, increasing their work and firing rate. Make use of exotic animals such as Camels and Elephants as well as Chariots. Barracks units are cheap but weak, while Migdol units are more expensive but a lot more effective. Two types of non-siege military units, trained from Barracks and Migdol Strongholds. Buildings that are not free cost gold instead of wood. The basic Villager builds and gathers resources as well as worshiping at a Temple to gain the favor of the gods. A Greek player can only have four heroes present on the map at a time. They have very powerful and unique Heroes from their myths which are strong and immune to several Myth unit special attacks. The Greeks are the starting faction in the Age of Mythology campaign and are the easiest to get used to using as they are most similar to the factions of other Age of Empires games. However, Age of Empires: Mythologies offers a nice addition and has the added benefit of online play.Greeks Main article: Greeks (Age of Mythology) In terms of gameplay - Age of Empires (both versions) are somewhat complicated and may be difficult for kids that are not strong reader or if they do enjoy analytical problems.įinal Verdict - If I was on an island and could only choose one Nintedo DS game it would be Age of Empires Age of Kings, since it is a game that offers more depth. Depending on your child's interest in Mythology the game can be educational since many of the characters and scenarios are pulled straight of ancient literature. The game does not feature any type of bloodshed. Both games offers campaigns and features that can be unlocked.Īge of Empires is a war based game, however it is not overly violent. Only three civilizations - Greeks, Egyptians, and the Norse to choose from. Each God has special powers and abilities that you can research. When you "Age-up" in Mythologies you add a new God to your temple. By capturing and keeping temples you can earn a "Temple Victory". There additional ways to win instead of just "total conquest". Wi-fi abilities have been added to Mythologies. ![]() Heros only have one special ability instead of four. Mythologies has better graphics that the original. In fact, they stay at the same fighting level until you advance to a new Soldiers/Heros do not gain "Experience" by fighting additional battles. Basically, the newer version lacks the overall depth of the previous. Age of Empires: Mythologies lack the overall depth of Age of Kings - there are fewer technologies, soldiers, heros, maps. The differences- (I am listing just a few) Age of Empires: Mythologies offers me new albeit slightly modified challenges. The problem is that I have beat the game dozens of times and I have been eagerly awaiting a new challenge. In fact, it is about the only game that I play on a consistent basis. My thought process is if you liked the original you will have interest in the sequel.Īge of Empires: The Age of Kings is my favorite game for the Nintendo DS. **** NOTE *** in this review I will be comparing Age of Empire: Mythologies to the Age of Empires: The Age of Kings both are Nintendo DS versions. ![]()
